Junimo hut purpose/placement/range

Can someone explain to me the purpose of the Junimo hut offered at the wizards tower? I know they harvest crops somehow but are they reliable? Where do you place it? What is its range? Do you need more than one for a large field of several hundred crops? Thanks!

They have a specific radius so I just set up this giant crop field and some sprinklers. Here's the wiki page

They won’t harvest on rainy days, otherwise reliable, and yes, you need several for a large field.

Junimos won't harvest on rainy days. They take holidays for all winter duration. They don't harvest wild seeds either.
One big advantage they have: they can go through trellises, so even a field full of green beans can be fully harvested by them.

Despite these, they are very useful and nice.

This is their range. It forms a 17x17 square.

And yes, they are reliable... except in the rain or winter.

I wish there were a simple way to tell them that I just want them to have a happy little home on my land, and they're welcome to hang out whenever they want. It'd be so cute to have them bumbling about happily, not a care in the world.
