PC Invite Code and Invite friend buttons don't appear (Multiplayer Bug, Help)

Me and a friend of mine have been playing multiplayer stardew for years, but recently have started having issues.
Usually, when one of us hosts a farm, it'll show up in the 'Join' menu, without needing an invite code, and we can connect from there, but now they don't, and the 'Invite Code' button on the menu seems to appear and disappear randomly each time we boot up the game. Ditto for the multiplayer menu in hosting farms. If the 'Invite code' button wasn't there on the join screen, it won't be there when hosting either, and the 'invite friend' button doesn't appear either.
We're playing on 1.5.4.
