Sorry I am not quite understand what is username in this game.
I think we only have one name in the game.
If you ask me to pick a random/casual name are analogous to pets/animals you are raising, I would tell you that formally... shhh... read my lips - My name is The Only Authentic Certified King Of United Islands Of Stardew Valley Archipelago.

Also not sure what you mean by change your username in game...
If you mean change your character name you decided at the start of the game, you can do that (and change your gender/appearance) at the shrine of illusions for the small fee of 500g. It's found in the wizard's basement, either gotten to by first getting 4 hearts with him or by teleporting from his ex wife the Witch's hut.

I generally either name my farmers with my own name, or I’ll name them after a particular character from a TV show or book that I’ve been enjoying lately.

My Farmer has always been Bobbi, just like in Hogwarts Legacy and Ark and My Time at Portia and whatever other game gives you the option to choose. They often look pretty similar in-game too, depending on my mood at character creation.
However.
In Stardew Valley specifically, I do find myself accumulating various titles during gameplay which I could and should change my name to, including:
Dread Pirate Queen Bobbi Cooper
That farmer again
The Perpetually Lazy Fisherwoman
Emily's Town Mannequin
Miss Fall in the Skull Cavern Flying Serpent Tasty Knees Farmer Pinup Calendar
She Forgot Again
Return Sceptre abuse overachievement, 3 years running
