I think it'd be pretty neat for the townspeople to make a comment if you have the same name as someone else, be it themselves or a friend of that villager, or just someone that knows them. Just like
"Name's George, huh? Do us both a favor and don't sully its reputation."

"Two Clints? I guess nothing about me's original."
"Did you say your name is Krobus? How? Your parents must be... Interesting people. Or did you choose that name...?"
