If I play a co op game without my farmhands, am I ruining it for them?

Hi,

Brand new player here. I'm in quarantine overseas while my family is back in Australia. We started a 4 player farm and I'm really enjoying it! But they go to bed (IRL) at around 3pm my time, and I kinda want to keep playing while they're asleep... Am I ruining the game for them if I do so? I mostly just want to farm and make money, then do the big stuff when they're back online, but I understand that story arcs often trigger as the days go by, and they might miss important events, given that it's also their first time playing?

I could just start my own singleplayer farm, but hate the idea of making all that progress and then jumping back into another farm...

Can someone help be my moral/ethical compass? :P

Best thing to do is ask them if they're okay with it.

If you already have and you're looking for another opinion, I say wait until they're online. Especially seeing as it's their first time playing, you might want to let them progress at their own pace instead of taking the wheel.

It's been quite a while since my MP buddy played but he would get the cutscenes separately from me (and gametime doesn't stop in MP so that could waste a lot of 2 people's in-game days), so my *guess* is the cutscenes would stack up and then be played out for your MP friends when they return. Which is fine as long as your friends don't mind losing a chunk of their in-game day tied up in those cutscenes.

Even if I already know how they go I still watch every single one, looking for what I'd missed the previous time. And, well, it's Stardew Valley. What's the point of playing if you're gonna skip the best parts? That'd be like watching Airplane! but skipping to the closing credits.
