Switch I think I finally solved the "Unable to connect to other console(s)" issue on Switch for those with T-Mobile home internet / data.

Hello everyone!

A few weeks ago me and my wife were having some issues playing co-op online we both have a Switch.

We tried changing the DNS, restarting the Switch, and a few other things but nothing worked!

For context she is using T-Mobile 5G internet and T-Mobile data on her iPhone I was using Mediacom.

Please note I have only tested this with an iPhone and Macbook, it may work with Android and PC but I have not tested that.

What finally fixed it was the following:

Step 1:

Install Proton VPN on your Mac (the free version works fine)

1.1:

Make sure it works and turns on, then turn it off until a later step.

Step 2:

Connect your phone to your macbook with your charging cable and hotspot your laptop with it.

Connect using USB instructions

2.1:
You may have to toggle off the wifi icon to switch to actually using the wired USB source of wifi as your internet connection.

Step 3:

Turn on Internet sharing on your Mac with the following settings:

Share your connection from: iPhone USB

To devices using: Wi-Fi

Step 4:

Turn on Proton VPN

Step 5:

Connect to the wifi network being generated by the Macbook and begin playing co-op!

A couple of notes:

This method did work for us when nothing else did but she disconnected a few times during the play session. She was able to quickly reconnect but wanted to make note of this, a paid Proton membership may make it a bit more stable but we did not want to pay.

We both had Nat type B if I remember correctly, I believe the issue is that T-Mobile does not use IPV4 for their connections making it not possible to connect properly.

We used Proton V5.X.X and this has not been tested on Proton V6 yet.

You may be able to remove the iPhone hotspot requirement by using a separate wifi dongle on your macbook. But this has not yet been tested. My understanding is that the wifi card on the macbook is not designed to both receive wifi and broadcast it at the same time only doing one or the other but that if you use a separate wifi dongle it would be able to do this by receiving the wifi locally with the dongle and then broadcasting with the built in wifi card.

I hope this is helpful for someone, please leave any questions or comments below and if there is enough interest I can try to make a more detailed guide or video walkthrough of the process.
