I Think I Did the Right Thing? (May Contain a Spoiler)

I started to make the title of this post "Prismatic Shard to Gunther or Galaxy Sword?" but thought that might contain a spoiler, so decided not to.

It was on the 20th day of my first winter of my third game. I started a third game because I was not happy with some choices regarding Ginger island in my second.

At any rate, I had completed the Community Center's Bridge and Bus repair and was clearing the nodes on the other side of the bridge and farming a few nodes in the dungeon that yields the golden scythe which I had retrieved the day before. I didn't notice until I returned home that one of the nodes I broke open had yielded a Prismatic Shard. When I clicked on it I received the notice that Gunther would like to accept this item into the museum. But I remembered from game two that I could convert it to a galaxy sword in the Desert. And this is what I did. It seemed like just too good a deal to pass up as the Cutlass I was using did 9-17 damage vs the Galaxy's 60-80.

I don't know what, if anything, the cost is to not giving it to Gunther. I hope I made the right choice and it will be interesting to see if Gunther will want the next Prismatic Shard I pick up.

Objectively yes that's the proper move, it makes getting another shard so much easier

Gunther wants everything that can go in the museum but there's no punishment for not doing it, and Prismatic Shards are rare, not unique. There will be more opportunities.

Personally, I have tended to donate the museum the first of every rock I find, but on my first run I didn't know about the Galaxy Sword and on my second I didn't know until I had already racked up a couple of shards, so I can't really call it a choice as such.

As others have said on this very thread, it doesn't matter, gunther will take the gem, mineral, or artifact at any stage of the game on any timeline and in any order, it doesn't matter unless you've already donated it to him.

i would recommend saving your prizmatic shards for magic rock candies for skull caverns. Theyll help you get through so much easier.

I started saving my most valuable "firsts" - diamonds, etc. - until l got a crystalarium. Then I'd clone them and send them to Gunther.

Note that this cannot be done with Prismatic Shards, unlike other Minerals. It's a good tip for those that can, though! :)

(1.5 spoiler) Cinder Shards also cannot be duplicated.
