I'm a whole adult, almost middle aged. My dad is a very nice old man. He has a small, pretty rural property that needs more upkeep than he can do. I've been offering and trying literally my whole life, but he never accepts help. Loves it, but has trouble delegating. He laughs (a merry chuckle, but still demoralizing) literally every time I suggest we fix the fences, do something specific and small with the garden, etc. He keeps the inside immaculate, so even doing chores for him is out of the question.
I will be moving two doors down from him, which means I will have my new place and his, where I grew up, to think of. He's always been my hero. I grew up playing Harvest Moon and always, always, always wanted to be like Farmer/my dad.
Does anyone have any tips with this type of elder help? He isn't frail; he does well for himself. Living alone is fine. The yard, house and property are just more work than it used to be, both because his age and because Wintertime doesn't get cold enough to kill all the weeds (etc.). Also, does anyone have any experience with homeownership stuff like gardening, maintenance, hens, etc.? Thank you!
