how to switch hosts in co-op? (MAC TO MAC)

i don't play stardew valley as much as my friend, i feel bad about making her wait until i want to play so i want to switch over the host ownership to her - preferably with her playing as her own character. is this even possible on the mac? please let me know!
p.s i tried doing my own research but i want to make sure i get the most updated way of doing it, while it also being compatible for mac

This question comes up pretty often to usually quite unsatisfactory answers (just trade all items and try to swap lifestyles/use the shrine of illusions, etc.)

While it isn't too annoying to swap farmhands (each character has an associated multiplayer id that can be "traded" so to speak with some file editing), swapping the main host and a farmhand is much more annoying, and requires a few more steps, of which the process I'm not even sure holds up in later versions.
