How do i put a hat on my dog on mobile?

I've never tried it with a dog, but, if I remember correctly, for the horse I chose the hat in my inventory then tapped the horse's head.

You simply hold the hat and tap the pet. If you have a control scheme using buttons simple approach the pet with a hat and click the same button you use to open doors/chests
