How do you guys find time to play games you enjoy? (Even when life gets busy).

I was working from home, so I didn't have to worry about time and being full productive all the time, when I felt bored or I was getting stuck with something, I stop and play a little or just walking around the house seeing what's happening with my cats or the woods behind my backyard. But I think the key is that gaming/playing isn't a "vital activity" like eating, sleeping or working, so I don't think you have to find time strictly to do it. But of course it's important to not burn you out, humans need recreational activities, but it has not to be gaming, it can be reading, listening to music, going outside, etc.
If I have time to play I do it, if not then I accept it and keep going, it's not like you will lose something important. That's why I stopped playing free to play games that requires you to play basically daily, they become a second job basically. My recommendation is to not play that kind of games, the aren't healthy, that's why I started to play SV, I can play for 10 minutes or whatever, leave it for 4 or 7 months and it will stay like I left it.
In conclusion, don't make gaming a "vital activity" (unless your job is gaming itself) and don't make it part of your personality (irrational fanaticism), stay focus on what's important for you and your beloved ones.

It can be difficult, especially when life gets super busy, as you've stated.

But I'm such a lover of gaming that I always try to make time lol. Even if I'm practically dead on my feet, I'll try to get in at least half an hour to an hour. Stay up later sometimes.

But I def have to skip some days, especially when a lot is going on.

Some days are just not meant for gaming. I've also found that writing a list of things I want to accomplish in my game is good too, so I don't get all sidetracked in the game. I also use restraint and don't let myself have a full day gaming session by setting timers on my phone or other devices. I tell myself, as a treat on my day off, I'll maybe do an all-day gaming session if my schedule permits, and whether I do that or not on my day off is 50/50, it's more just a trick I use to tell my brain, "Hey, we can play this later, the game isn't going anywhere.".

I’m retiring soon, sooooo yea us old farts will have more free time. Of course, we also get to identify with George a lot, so, grains of salt there.

seriously though. Go to YouTube, and search for “Spaceship You”. I wish I’d seen that at the start of the pandemic, or better yet, that I somehow could have watched it 15 years ago. Pandemic or not, it’s still great advice for how to prioritize and budget time and focus on well being.

I generally play after my daughter goes to bed around 10, which gives me 2-3 hours before I turn in. SV is a bit different as it's more family friendly, so it's more acceptable weekend daytimes.

As someone who's incredibly busy, I've developed a pretty horrible mindset of always feeling I need to be productive when on my computer, doing work, coursework, etc. which has made the amount I play games on it drop dramatically in the last couple years.

I've somewhat made up for this by playing on my phone (though this really just applies to anything handheld, switches, steamdeck, etc.) which I can sneak in anytime and play when commuting on the bus or if I'm taking a break somewhere. inside the game itself I also play files that have really longterm, overarching goals, that way I don't feel too lost and demotivated if I don't play for weeks or a month and have no idea what I was doing leading up to that point (lots of reminders in game too like signal machines, a chest I keep stuff that I'm processing or currently doing, etc.).
