How about an introverts’ version of the game?

I know people who quit the game because they feel like they are being punished for simply not wanting to deal with the villagers. Not getting recipes etc.

During the last few rounds of Stardew, I have come to the conclusion that many of the villagers are takers, not givers. For example, when your character single handedly completes the Community Center, they get a pat on the back and…recipes? Seriously?

Then if that isn’t enough, they want you to do more to build the community by doing board quests. Completing quests and being paid for them is work for hire, not an act of community building.

I would be nice, if especially in the beginning of the game, a villager just once asked my character if they need anything.

now some of the townsfolk’s are nice, but frankly I can live without most of them.

I haven’t gotten the statue of the Mayor for one single reason—it can’t be melted down.

So friends & I would like less forced sociability and more solitude. The Community Board soured me on the townsfolk.

I rarely talk to anyone—I have Abigail at 7 hearts and then my next highest is Linus at 2–but I also don’t mind doing quests for the other villagers. If you’re an unsociable hermit who hates talking to people, no one’s going to want to give you anything. And what else do you want the villagers to do when you complete a quest for them? You’re also the only person with any semblance of a full farm; afaik Pierre just has a garden.

After you get that bigger bulletin board that’s between the bridge and Lewis’ house, you can do quests that will often both give money and other rewards.

Additionally, I believe completing the Community Center gives eventual access to both the movie theater and Ginger Island.

“…I'd lost sight of what mattered most in life... real connections with other people and nature.”

Now, just because that was Grandpa’s prescription for a better life doesn’t mean it HAS to be yours. You can tell Grandpa to stuff his real connections if you want. But it does sorta seem to be a big part of Concerned Ape’s vision for the game. Does it have to yours? No, but the game is mod friendly.

Does the player put in a Lot more effort to get on people’s good side vs other way around? Yes. But, well, you’re the “new guy/gal”. Fair or not, in that situation you often have to make more of an effort, even in real life.
