Switch [HELP] Nintendo Switch game freezing during multiplayer

Titel pretty much says it all but here are the details.

My wife and I bought SDV on christmas and soon after we bought Nintendo Online because Local multiplayer kept kicking me out the session. So we hoped online would fix this problem which it did.
But with that solution came a new issue.

My game will freeze 20 times per hour for 10 seconds each freeze. The sound continues to play, sometimes my controller will nonstop vibrate during those 10 seconds, my wife still gets to move and do everything, but meanwhile I take damage in the mines.

The game is amazing but this issue is seriously starting to make me think about asking Nintendo for a refund because it just wont go away and it does affect my enjoyment of our game sessions together.

Thanks but after looking at the link you provided it seems none of the steps/solutions are viable for the Nintendo Switch. Played again last night and kept dying in the skull cavern due to this issue. And it seems this issue dates back to at least 2 years and it seems it has never been fixed...

It would be nice if ConcernedApe could actually do something about this.

Well, part of the problem is that this may not be the same issue, but beyond that, any report of something happening "sometimes" or "randomly" can be very difficult to fix, especially if it's not occurring for everyone. So that said, if you notice any pattern or have additional details to provide, that could help. For example, are there specific areas where the freezing occurs? Or at a certain time during the game's day cycle? Does it happen after you've been playing for a certain amount of time? Only when in handheld or docked or both? Stuff like that.

I'm also having this issue, but digging through the forums gave me no real solution and no hints aside from one post here, in which the OP mentions having installed the Nintendo Switch Online app from the popup on the multiplayer menu immediately before the issue began. The same happened for me, as the next time I played the game after installing the app (to get rid of the popup), I was experiencing these freezes. Like the OP of this post mentioned, these freezes happen without a specific rhyme, reason or duration, and the post I found leads me to believe that the freezes are due to a communication issue between Stardew Valley's multiplayer and the NSO app. I use a Switch Lite, though from posts I've seen on this forum the issue can happen regardless.

I've tried completely removing and reinstalling the game itself, as well as deleting all of my save data, yet the issue still persists. One thing of note is that the popup for the NSO app on the multiplayer screen has not reappeared, even though my game data has been completely cycled, which is the reason why I believe it to be the issue.

In addition, I've compiled a video of 4 distinct freezes, two of which occur during fishing (when the fishing cast sound lingers, much like the OP's controller vibration.) I would appreciate the ability to fix this issue, as the game freezing has cost me the Legend due to a freeze right as I received the hit notification leading to the fish disappearing on catch.

I get this exact issue playing the current (and previous) version online and split-screen. I have not seen this (yet) in single player. I should mention this happens everywhere: surface, underground, fishing, etc. I've seen dozens of mentions of this bug on Reddit and this very forum. I've mentioned it on the Discord where others have said they had it. I've also mentioned it on Twitter. Also, I get this happening on every farm I've made. I've restarted maybe ten times and it keeps occurring.

Since this issue also happens for me during splitscreen co-cop, I am not sure if it has to do with the NSO app, in my situation.

Hi, I'm digging a bit but I experience the exact same issue! I've tried playing multiplayer (online) on the switch yesterday for the first time. I noticed some very nasty freeze every few mins, freeze around 5 seconds pretty much, no clear pattern of when it happens. Feels very random.

Only me was affected, my partner was fine. I've tried both hosting and joining. I've tried on my Switch Lite and my normal switch, on multiples farm. I've tried deleting all my save, reinstall the game on my console memory and on my SD card. Nothing made it better.

Today my partner tried playing with another friend and noone of them got any issue at all. We did another test and our friend downloaded the Nintendo Switch Online app and tried again and guess what? The freeze started almost instantly for him. My partner is not affected, she also doesn't have the nintendo switch online app but I do.

We tried to uninstall the app / log off / remove the notification pop up, nothing works. I tend to think it's really connected to the NSO app but once you have it installed, it's impossible to go backwards.

Hi @Anzu, I believe between this thread and the others I've seen, the NSO app is definitely the problem, but I'm not sure who would need to be contacted in order to fix the issue. I tried to have my phone manually removed from my Nintendo account through support, but they didn't seem to able to do it, which narrows it down to actually having the issue fixed. I know that Sickhead Games is in charge of the Switch port rather than CA, but there's also the potential that he could pass it on to them himself if made aware of the problem.

I don't really know how to contact them, but think there are enough people being affected by it to actually investigate. I wish we were able to disable the NSO app support directly on Stardew Valley settings somehow. Could any moderator gives us a hint on how to contact the people in charge of SV on Switch? I really wanna see this issue fixed as this game is my favorite of all time and I really wanted to experience it with my partner :/

I also have the same issue, its bugging me so much. I also managed to narrow it down to the problem being having the Nintendo Switch Online app through testing with some friends.

This has been happening on multiplayer for ages. It is not new and does happen to loads of folks.. there are multiple threads dating back before this one that do mention it. In fact, I wrote one of those myself... I believe last year (found the post: dated July 6, 2020 - nearly a year ago) if you look in my post history. The freezing issue happens to both players in a multiplayer game irregardless of time of day, season, weather, etc. In fact, since that post, my boyfriend and I have completely abandoned our save on the switch because it has not (and in all probability will not) been addressed. I have noticed that splitscreen is getting some attention though, so maybe, hopefully, that might lend a solution that is beneficial to both issues. My hopes aren't high at this point.

My recommendation: get the refund, get 2 copies on PC and play multiplayer on PC. It's easier and magically has zero issues regarding freezing multiplayer sessions.

It's not just an NSO issue. The issue pre-dates version 1.5 and splitscreen.

Unfortunately, this issue doesn't really gain a lot of traction here on the forums. It's good that people keep posting about it, but unless we're reaching the folks that can actually work out what the coding issue is on the switch's end, it is doubtful there will be any headway made.

I'd also like the chime in that when I tested this issue before splitscreen was added, even hosting a multiplayer game with just myself in the game & no other friends connected, still had the weird freezing issues that would last every some odd seconds.
