Switch [HELP] Lag on multiplayer

Hey there!
I’ve seen a few threads about lag issues but not exactly like what my husband and I are experiencing. Hopefully I can explain this properly.

On our current file we have a two player farm which is hosted by my husband on an online connection. Everything starts out fine but as soon as I go into town I get a 10-15 second lag out. It shows a load screen with the switch controller. This happens everywhere I go in town, but my husband doesn’t have the lag issues so time just keeps ticking away. When I return to the bus stop area or to the farm the lag is non existent.
Neither of us are exactly tech savvy but we both have newer switches with the 1.4 updates. We have a good internet connection and are usually only playing in the evenings (less devices connected/using the internet).
I am hoping someone can help us troubleshoot this as it is becoming a bit frustrating trying to work on NPC relationships.
Thank you in advance!!

Here's a troubleshooting guide.
Also the lag in town could be due to top many things being rendered. For instance if you had 999 logs on the ground it would crash most likely, but if it was that it would most likely despawn. You don't have any chest blocking npc paths or in town at all do you?
No we haven’t done any decorating outside our farm. And our farm isn’t cluttered with kegs, barrels or animals - yet. And we have several chests so item drops like what you mentioned aren’t likely. It was very random.

Thank you for the link. I’ll look it over and see if that helps!
