Switch [HELP] Chest and tool disappeared after resort construction

I had a chest with my copper pan and many important stuff in it on the Ginger Island. It was on the beach, right at the end of the docks. I finally made the resort, and the chest and its contents have disappeared. They're not anywhere on the island, and not in the Lost and Found box either. I've tweeted to ConcernedApe, but no response yet. Please help!

You can buy a copper pan at Willy's shop, so maybe that's why it doesn't get returned.

Only irreplaceable tools (and for some reason, warp totems) get send to the lost & found. Resources get destroyed if you don't pick them up in time after someone walked though your chests.
