Hello My StarDew Valley Friends!

ShadowDragon

I am new to the forum! I have been using the wiki for a while & just realized there was a forum too! I got Stardew Valley a while ago but didn't really play the game until about a month ago. I have been trying out different farmlands & just trying to get a feel for the game. I hope being a part of the community will help make the game even more enjoyable! :)

Is there anything that you can suggest / advise someone who is a little newer to the game? Any tips are appreciated.

Welcome, this is a good community so it will make the game very much more enjoyable. My advice, check out as many old threads and postings on here. Lots of useful information to be gathered in past posts. Have fun :junicheer:!

My advice, you should not immediately play at the beach farm for the first game.
because I feel the impact, when I am forced to need a tool upgrade as soon as possible and work on a pile of sand that can't be placed on a sprinkler

Welcome to the Forums ShadowDragon!

My best suggestion is to start with the the regular Farm take it slow and enjoy how the game unfolds the experience of playing it in a natural and compelling way. Lay off the wiki as much as you can and enjoy the flow as it's presented to you. I did sneak the favorite Gifts from the wiki on my first try but pretty much nothing else and really, that made finding out everything else in the game for the first time a really special experience.

Enjoy!

Hello ShadowDragon! I look forward to seeing you around the forums!

As for tips, well, while I 101% agree that you should let the game surprise you, there are a couple of tips that I like to give to newer players. Here they are:

Check your TV – Every channel has extremely useful information. Whether it's Livin' of the Land telling you which fish you can only catch in Summer, The Queen of Sauce gifting you recipes that will be essential later on, the Weather Reporter informing you that you can upgrade your Watering Can today (because it's raining tomorrow), or Welwick forecasting that today's a really bad day to go Mining, they are all useful and the more information the better!

Read Books! – When you dig up Artifact Spots (worms), there is a chance that you'll get a Lost Book. These will appear in the Library/Museum, and they have some hints about more obscure game mechanics. Definitely worth a look.

Get the Training Rod – Fishing is difficult early on, but the Training Rod makes it much easier. It's only 25G from Willy, and it will make your life a whole lot easier.

Don't go Joja...yet – There is an alternate progression route in the game, tied to Joja. Definitely don't go for it on your first playthrough, but maybe give it a try on your second or third!

Have Fun! – There are lots of activities to try, people to meet, places to explore. You might not enjoy certain parts, but that can't stop you from "completing" the game, so find what you enjoy and have FUN!

Second this - I gave up on fishing in my first save. Then discovered the training rod - made a huge difference.

Welcome, ShadowDragon!

An advice I can give is that all trash (except Joja cola) are useful, as it can be recycled. Don't throw them away.
