iOS Held item changes unexpectedly

This is occurring in 1.6.14 and earlier 1.6 versions on iOS. It happens unexpectedly and I'm not entirely sure what triggers it, but sometimes when I have the watering can equipped and use it, after the watering is complete a different item in my inventory will be held. It's usually been a few slots down in my inventory, and I'm not sure if it's related to the inventory slot or the item, which is usually something I've recently held.

Example:
1. Early in the morning after sleeping from the previous day, with controls set to tap-to-move-and-auto-attack, and with nothing selected in my inventory, I walk up to my pet's water bowl and tap it; watering can in inventory slot 7 is automatically selected to fill the bowl.
2. With watering can still in hand, I walk over and water several crops by tapping on them.
3. After watering a few crops and with water still in the can, suddenly I am holding copper ore from inventory slot 15. This was the next inventory slot after 7 which contained an item, and was also something I'd been putting into the furnace just before sleeping at the end of the previous day.

This has happened a few times before; I'll try to update this if it happens again.

Okay, it happened again under very similar circumstances on the same save. This time my watering can was in slot 1 and after watering 1 crop the selection shifted to my fishing pole in slot 4, skipping over several other tools. The second crop I was trying to water was beside the first one, so I definitely didn't mis-tap onto my toolbar. The fishing pole was the last tool I was using the previous day.

I'm having issues with the toolbar too. I've had tools chosen from random slots, but most of the time it's from slot #1. I can't figure out all the times it happens, but it happens 100% of the time when I get on my horse. I've lost crops so many times from this that I've started carrying a diamond in slot #1 - that way I don't destroy anything (or randomly move a chest), I can't eat it, and if I accidentally give it to someone at least they'll like it. I really hope this gets fixed.

It has been happening to me as well. Random inventory slots chosen but especially slot #1. Especially when I get on my horse. Hopefully it’s gets fixed soon.

Happening to me on android too. Had return scepter at #1 in inventory which was a pain as it got selected and kept returning me to front of house after chopping wood, collecting moss and other random events. As per your suggestion moved it to #2 with some non destructive, non valuable item in #1 and seems to do the trick.
