Switch Gourmand Frog not recognising crop?

Hi,

I'm playing on the Switch. I'm having an issue with the Gourmand Frog not recognising that I'm growing a melon. He just says he hopes that I'm growing a melon, and there's no option to bring up the dialogue to tell him that I'm growing a melon. The melon is ripe (I tried to pick it to check and I could, so I reloaded the save). I'm very sure I've not already gotten these walnuts.

Please help!

When he just says he hopes you grow melons, that is his dialogue after you have completed all three quests.
