Gold Clock vs tilled plot decay

Will the Gold Clock prevent / slow down tilled land decay?

It's not a problem most seasons as I simply plant something cheap and then cut down the dead plants next day with a scythe, but winter is problematic. I tried to plant wheat on last day of fall (in real life, that's how it's done I suppose? Some wheat is planted before winter and then appears in the spring) but it doesn't seem to work.

In the past, I've been making fiber seeds, retilling all land and planting the seeds last week of winter but this year I forgot :( Now I'm faced with the prospect of tilling 900+ pieces of land on Spring 1.

MY FARMER WILL DIE OF EXHAUSTION. (He passes out most days in early Spring as it is).

HARVEY REFUSES TO TREAT HIM ANYMORE. Harvey threatens to have him confined to lunatic asylum if this continues.

A related question, is it possible to make it rain on Spring 1? I tried rain totems on last day of Winter but they didn't work...

Rain totems don’t work on the 1st or on Festival days.

However, what day is it? If it’s not already the 1st of Spring, you should be able to plant just about anything and have it die the next day, giving you dead plants which will persist through the season transition, right?

If it’s already too late, as long as you don’t have plans which fall apart if you have 1 day fewer in a season, you can do the good old one two punch:

Day 1: Till plant and fertilize half the fields, or as much as you get around to. Do not water.
Day 2: The stuff you planted yesterday gets watered by your sprinklers. Till the rest, plant, fertilize, and water.

Then everything will be aligned, and hopefully with only half the field to do each day your farmer won’t die. Best of luck!

I don't believe you can plant crops in winter, unfortunately. And I don't think there's any way to keep land tilled over the fall-winter transition. However, you can plant winter seeds and have them die in Spring and keep the land tilled, not sure if that's better or worse than fiber seeds.

If it's already spring, my condolences to your farmer. May I suggest throwing large amounts of money at Gus for salads?

EDIT: Just realized I didn't answer your actual question, sorry. No, the gold clock won't prevent tilled plots from decaying.

Have you considered becoming a Lazy Farmer? There's no need to till 900+ tiles; just do exactly as little work as you want. Trust me, you'll be fine! 😴 😀 (I've never had more than about 80 tiles planted outdoors at any time in my game).

Regarding your question about the clock - that's not listed as something it does on the wiki. I also question your premise - if you already have the clock, why on Earth (or in this case on Stardewvia) would you be planting huge fields?? To the extent that there's ever a reason to work hard in this game, it's to get the money for the clock. Once you have the clock, initiate Extreme Lazy Mode (if you haven't already by that point).

Hmmm...the clock requires 10 MILLION gold so you are very loooong way from having enough money to afford a clock. It's usually an end-game sort of purchase --after you have that passive income rolling with your iridium ancient fruit wine and big shed full of diamond crystalariums.

You only need to farm enough to fulfill specific cooking achievements and shipping achievements.

OK, so I now have 20 million gold in pocket, and I'm planting my large fields because I finally can. I don't have to do any quests anymore, only fight and fish as little as I want to, and I can focus on farming.

I haven't gotten the clock yet because it's kind of not very pretty - I didn't want this large golden monstrosity to take up place on my farm. But if it's going to make tilling at least a bit easier, I will buy it in a heartbeat!

I'm in this game for farming. Lots, lots of farming to craft with ;)

I'm kind of like you Hexnessie. I farm because I WANT to. I did buy the clock because EVENTUALLY I want to achieve 100% perfection and that's a requirement. So I took a section of my farm and created a garden around the clock. It's a work in progress and maybe when it's done, I'll post some pics in the Showcase forum. I've seen other people do this with the clock.

I do admit that I'm horrible about knowing the simplest things. For instance, it never occurred to me to plant a crop on last day of fall to not have to do all that digging the first day of spring. It goes pretty fast with my fancy dancy hoe and a couple of cups of coffee but still...

So me and my farmer, we got this bright idea to maybe till the land easier with MEGABOMBS. What could go wrong, we thought. We have plenty of those, because the crazy ex-Navy next house over keeps mailing them to us (how is that not illegal!)

Casualties include 3 iridium sprinklers, some fence, two barrels of wine, and our dignity. Harvey billed my farmer 1000g to treat his injuries. That man. (Maybe my farmer should marry him to stop the bills...)

Anyhow, the land is tilled (no bombs involved), and I will be getting the clock - thanks for the tip about silos! I also love the garden-around-the-clock idea, I may finally plant some flowers and maybe put out the beehives.

To be fair, it needn't be a silo. Those are just the same width. You can hide it behind anything, really, as long as there's room and you want it hidden. Just ensure that you will not also go behind the building blocking your view, rendering it transparent so you can see the clock again. 😉

Mind, I've never hidden my clock, though I've tucked other things into hidden spots on my farms for my own fun, like the Golden Lewis statue. If he's going to hide it, I figured I could too.

On my 4-Corners farm my clock is in front of the greenhouse, which I never moved. It's down enough that you can get around it on all sides. It is not decorated, but everything around it is completely paved as if it was a statue or edifice set in the middle of my farm in order that anyone coming in from the south sees that ridiculously-gaudy symbol of wealth first.

Oh my Beach farm my clock is down in the meadow area with seasonal forage and the freshwater pond. This one is decorated with flowers, lights and a wicked statue. It looks less intimidating that way.

The golden clock is not pretty, I agree. On my beach farm it is on the island that used to hold the greenhouse. There are 2 fruit trees, some grave stones and a sign of the vessel surrounding the clock. It works, but it is also out of sight for the most part.

Maybe try eating a farmers lunch before hoeing and watering in the spring? My daughter thinks it’s insane to water crops by a sprinkler, so you could water only the slowest growing crops.

I had a farm that size once too. It took me 2 days in spring to get all my fields done.
