Glitch or just really rare?

I was fishing on my new 1.6 farm and caught an eel along with a fishing chest. And then when the chest was opened there was another eel?? Except it was gold quality instead of the silver quality I caught?? I took a video on my switch and can upload screenshots if needed, but this has never ever happened before and if you know me you'd know that I've gotten basically everything from fishing chests (except one thing in particular...). Is this a new 1.6 thing? If so, why isn't it on the wiki and why can't I find anything online about it?

Sounds like a bug if you caught 2 different quality fish at the same time. Was your inventory full?

Maybe your inventory was full, when you caught the eel and the treasure chest?

If so, the caught fish, is being displayed next to the treasure loot items, for you to manually arrange what gets where.

I'd love to see the screenshots and / or video, were you maybe using wild bait? My current hypothesis is you were using wild bait, only had one inventory space left, the silver had room but the bonus fish from the wild bait was a gold and there was no room for it, thus it was placed in the chest. I have no idea if that's even possible (if your inventory was actually not full, if you weren't using wild bait, or if wild bait guarantees both caught fish are the same quality then I'm wrong), but it's the best theory I've got.

Ah I'd forgotten about wild bait. I just had a look at the wiki; yeah, doesn't specify if double catches would be the same quality. Not indicated for challenge bait either. If we do find out, maybe someone could add that info?

No wild bait used.
The video shows the eel in the chest, but doesn't make it clear whether I had a full inventory or not before catching the eel. I assumed after catching the eel my inventory was full and I had to move items to make space for what was in the fishing chest. I swear that my inventory wasn't full before then because I had been keeping track (I would leave the beach after it was full), but I might be wrong. I specifically remember catching two eels (no stars) before this one, but if you guys are right I must've forgot that I caught a third eel (that was silver?) and didn't know my inventory was full. Not sure if we can figure this one out for sure but most likely it's just my memory acting up.

In conclusion: I don't know why, but I swear I only caught two eels before that one, not three and that there was one more space in my inventory. But there's no way to prove that so I'm probably wrong.
