Ginger Island - digging spot issues please help!

Hello everyone, I'm new here, nice to meet you all.

I'm playing the Ginger Island expansion on PS4. There are several journal scraps that show "X marks the spot" clues. They're similar to the Secret Notes that do the same: direct you where to dig for treasure with your hoe on a little map.

I've never had any trouble digging up the Secret Note ones. But for some reason I can't dig up the journal scrap treasures. When I go to those areas my hoe doesn't actually work on many of the ground tiles at all. It's like when you're trying to use a hoe on grass: no sound and it doesn't leave a mark.

Am I using the wrong tool? I'm using an iridium hoe with the archaeologist enchantment. Cannot figure out why it won't let me dig the tiles where the treasure is supposed to be -- it's like my hoe works on some sand but not other sand?

Do you have screenshot examples of where you're digging and hot getting anything?

Hey thank you for responding! But I think I may have figured it out, I was able to get two of the spots to work. It seems like you can't do it with the hoe's charge attack, you have to hit the spot directly?

I think that is true for the ones that are in an otherwise untillable area.

I've never done it any other way and never had a problem. I assume it is to prevent folks just wandering around and digging up the whole world in an attempt to find the walnuts.
