I just bought stardew valley on steam and I tried running it normally and It won't run even tho I'm in a windows 10 64-bit system and it load just fine on the 32-bit version, I want to install mods so this is a pretty big bummer for me.

I know my specifications are in spanish but it says clearly 64-bit

Hello GoldenMaiden and Welcome to the Forums!

Since you are likely using your Intel Processor's built in graphics to play Stardew Valley, you may need to use the 32-bit version because the 64-bit version seems to have problems with older Intel CPU graphics. I tested this on other second and third generation Intel CPU graphics and the problem is the same with 64-bit Stardew crashing or not starting up. Yours is 3rd generation Intel: Core i3-3110M.

Usually people will tell you to update your graphics drivers to fix this but Intel stopped supporting these CPUs years ago, even though they still work fine! Intel just dropped support for 6th generation graphics earlier this year so you can guess that it's been a while since they supported 3rd generation.

Then is there any way to run mods with my specs?

There's a not- very-safe-looking fix posted here by Forum member @Tom about a year ago which fixed this issue for him with the Intel HD graphics in his even older laptop. I may have a computer of the same age as yours in my work office to try this on Tuesday and frankly I'm curious about how it works.

But as a preview: the file that purports to patch this bug/flaw/problem is almost instantly deleted by Windows Defender as a likely virus. So naturally I need to turn Defender off and try this if I can find that computer because now I gotta know!

EDIT: Please see simpler instructions a few posts below!
_____

Um, OK.

So Stardew Valley works without me needing to do any of the questionable downloads. OK what did I do?

Installed Windows 10 Version 22H2 (the most recent one)

Installed the most current video drivers for these 3rd Gen processor graphics from Intel here:

Expand the Windows 10 section and click the Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows* [15.33] link. Install that and restart when it asks.

Then I downloaded and installed the regular version of Stardew Valley from GOG.com (where I bought it from, Steam should be identical). You have to go out of your way on GOG to get the Compatibility version (32-bit version), including downloading their GOG Galaxy launcher app and I didn't do that. I really don't think I have the 32-bit version.

That driver I linked above is from 2020 and is newer than the one that Windows installed for me so please try installing that and maybe SDV will work?

I had SDV crash on me before on a different 3rd gen machine so this is a surprise. I hope the driver update works for you.

This is true, there's too much useless info so I'll make it more straightforward for anyone else that comes across this error. And me a year from now when I forget.

If you can't get the regular 64-bit version of Stardew Valley to work but the Compatibility version (32-bit) works and you have an Intel 3rd generation CPU ( Core i#-3### ) and are using the CPU's integrated graphics (most people will be using this), you need to update your graphics driver from Intel to run the 64 Bit mode to use Mods:

1. Open this link at Intel: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000090440/graphics.html
2. Expand the Windows 10 section
3. Click the Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows* [15.33] link
4. Click the Download win64_15.33.53.5161.exe button
5. Run the win64_15.33.53.5161.exe file you just downloaded

It will take a small amount of forever to finally start the graphics driver install and will ask you to restart when done. Restart and try out the regular version of Stardew Valley, it should work!

Happy Modding!
