Android Game keeps closing after a few minutes of gameplay

So my mom had an old Samsung tablet where she used to play stardew. Everything was alright, but with the 1.6 patch coming to mobile, her game now closes automatically and without a warning or error message every few minutes. Sometimes she can play for a whole day or two, sometimes it closes during the first day of her current gameplay. We thought it might have been something with her device, so we bought a new one with better settings, but as soon as she started playing the game again the same thing kept happening. She tried to play on her old save and on a new save, it happens on both. After the game closes, she either does not get the "start from where you've stopped" message, or she does, but the game just starts in the beggining of the day either ways.

Is this an isolated case? Is there anything we can do to try to fix this issue?

I tried my best to find a way to update the save files but I honestly have no idea how.
