game crashing when loading save and smapi launch issues

Whenever I try to load any save file or create a new one my game crashes, originally it was SMAPI that crashed but after some (failed) troubleshooting Stardew crashes directly. Ive tried deleting my last save, uninstalling/reinstalling everything i can think of, and trying to find anyone else with this issue but i havent had any luck. additionally; when launching stardew through steam SMAPI doesnt launch even though the launch options are correct, but everything launches correctly when directly through SMAPI (until i try to load anything ofc)
