Switch Game crashes whenever we enter the volcano (split-screen)

My husband and I are playing split-screen on the switch. When either of us try to do anything in the volcano, the game crashes. I was trying to create the path from the entrance to the first level with the watering can (my husband was not in the volcano) and it crashed.

Is there any solution or are we out of luck for the volcano until a patch?
