Windows Game crashed while saving and lost entire save file

Yesterday while I was playing, my computer crashed while saving and when I went back into the main menu, my entire character was gone. I looked in the files on my computer, and the save file is still there from a previous day but I don't know how to recover it and make it so that my game picks up that I still have an actual save. Does anybody know what I can do?

Try the instructions under the troubleshooting section. Note it may be good to make a backup copy of the save folder with all files until you get it back to run.
