Naw, weapons can be "sold" via the trash can too. Broken Trident and Neptune's Glaive are an exception, you cannot destroy them (legit ones, not spawned/cheated). I'm assuming this is some protection from the special tag they receive when you fish them (you are supposed to only find them once).
