Fruit Tree planting spacing help

Hi Stardew community, is there a way to visibly see the spacing requirements for planting fruit trees and the different placement options?

Stardew Valley game ---> "Only grows if the 8 surrounding "tiles" are empty." is not making sense to me.

This is how I understand it:

However, I have read on the Stardew Valley wiki that if the tree is planted near a building or in the greenhouse then the planting requirements are altered.

Pictures or a visible representation is preferred to help understand this please.

Many thanks,

Fruit trees need more space around them:

xxxxx
xxxxx
xxoxx

The exception in the greenhouse is that you can plant them right up against the walls and in the corners. But any open spaces within two squares of them must remain clear for them to continue growing. Once they’re fully grown they’ll produce fruit even if you place things near them.

The design you’ve made is what’s needed for normal trees to reach adulthood. But you can put paths around normal trees at any time.

Regular non-fruit Trees (Oak, Maple, etc) need 1 tile free completely surrounding them in order to grow, like this:

xxx
xTx
xxx

so they kinda grow in a 3 x 3 space, but those free spaces can overlap: You can place another regular Tree in the next tile over so you can plant rows of regular Trees like this:

xTxTxTxTxTxTx

and so on. Works the same vertically, too:

x
T
x
T
x

and so on.

But as mentioned above, Fruit Trees need additional spacing. Their 3 x 3 space CANNOT overlap with another Fruit Tree's space so they need to be planted 1 tile more widely spaced, like this:

xxxxxx
xFxxFx
xxxxxx
xxxxxx
xFxxFx
xxxxxx

so a row of Fruit Trees looks like this:

xFxxFxxFxxFxxFx

and so on. Same goes for vertical planting.

And as mentioned above there are a few exceptions, like you can plant against the inside walls of the Greenhouse and a Fruit Tree will still grow:

You're right in asserting that fruit trees only need the 8 tiles around them to be free of objects/debris to grow. There is however one slightly unintuitive thing that also obstructs the growth of fruit trees, which is other trees growing zones.

That means, to plant a fruit tree next to another tree, you need a separation of 2 tiles between stumps, though for any other debris/object, a single tile will suffice. In the cases of walls, farm cliffs, and buildings, you don't even need any space, as they don't count as objects to obstruct trees.
