Friendship Decay

Lets use a non-dateable character for example. On wiki, it said that friendship stops decaying one you reach max friendship. It also said that you can get a max of one point less than the next heart, so for like Linus, you could have 10 hearts and 249 points. Does this mean that decay stops at 10 hearts or 10 hearts and 249 points? I'm probably overthinking this but could someone please explain.

Based on my current playthrough it looks like the decay freeze starts at 10 and zero points because as soon as I got 10 with everyone, I stopped the gifts and only chat on occasion. I'll see them change their order in my list on occasion from talking or completing Orders from the boards even though I have everyone at 10 , and nobody's decayed back to 9 after a couple of seasons.

Exactly at 10, anything past that doesn’t do anything but act as damage protection if you do something to lower their friendship accidentally. For boy/girlfriends it can be worth it as it brings you basically to 11 hearts as soon as you marry
