Forcing rain

I've heard tell of a way to force it to rain. (Not via totem) is there a way? And how would I accomplish this?
The only two ways I know of is rain totems for most. If you are on PC, experienced in code or have downloaded a good save editor, you can also go about it that way.

Note: it will never rain on a festival day, and a few select days in early spring I believe.

You might be thinking of "step manipulation." SV speed runners, I believe, do it. There is better info than I could ever give online, but step manipulation is the common term.
What the blazes is step manipulation? My tech vocabulary isn’t the best. Is that another word for save editing?

Yes, is this still viable or has it been patched?
Edit: Also any YouTube recommendations to going about this?

I don't know much about it myself, but I don't believe it's been patched due to the fact the process of step manipulation is working on account of how the game is made to function, that's just my guess though. The only video (Youtube short) I saw about step manipulation though was from a YouTuber called "Seanie Dew" from 2 years ago. Best of luck, I hope rain showers upon your save soon lol.

One of the random numbers the game uses to calculate some events (like rain) is the number of steps you’ve taken. Do you can manipulate the random number generator by being careful about your steps.

Step manipulation relates to the game using the total number of steps you have taken (a metric which it tracks and can even be seen in the casino stat tracker) as a part in calculating certain events and 'random' values. Often being the only player derived variable stat in those calculations (paired with day/game seed which are obviously pretty constant/shift predictably, and # of machines operating at 6:00am when waking up but that's often ignored as step manip as a whole is done early game when you don't have any machines running)
It's part of what the game uses to calculate luck, dish of the day (at the saloon), weather

Step manip rain is no longer in the game for the mainland, it still does dictate a rain day becoming stormy and rain on ginger island.

Regular rain for the mainland now follows a general pattern and is fully seeded, though with the latest version having dynamic seeding patched out there is little you can do on preexisting files. You can use a seed finding tool for a seed for a new save though you need a decent knowledge base in coding (maybe C#? I haven't used it much) to operate it.

This kind of steps manipulation can be harder to achieve on mobile device with the "tap to move" feature because the game chooses the path for you. It could be better to switch to joystick control if steps manipulation is wanted on mobile.
