First playthrough and multiple farms

Hello,

I am wondering whether or not to pick up the Switch version of Stardew Valley for a vanilla playthrough since I am new to this game. I plan to later use mods on either a PC or Linux version(on Chromebook), but can using mods/installing them be too much of a hassle and take away the charm and relaxing part of the game? Especially for Linux? For example, spending time just installing mods and making sure they work right and fixing erorrs rather than just playing and so on. On Chromebook you have to switch to Linux or something like that as well. I love the idea of using mods, but want to know what I should do first. Is the console version with 1.5 worth it without mods? Will playing vanilla help me get used to, and learn the game? Should I have 2 farms? One for Switch, the other on PC/Linux? Any opinions would be helpful!

I play unmodded on PS4 and there is plenty to enjoy with the vanilla experience! I can't speak to if adding mods makes it stressful rather than enjoyable since I have no experience. Honestly, the game is cheap enough it is not a major investment to buy it in two different formats.

Most people on the forum recommend just exploring and relaxing on your first play through and then, after you have discovered things for yourself, then dive into min/max, modding, specialized farms, etc. Also, by that point you will know what things bother you the most and you want to modify to better enjoy future games!

Well, to be fair, if you get it on Switch and later plan to play on PC because you might want to mod... is kinda inefficient. I mean, I'm all for supporting CA, but do you need to buy 2 copies of the game? I'd suggest just getting it for PC if you think you might want to play on PC in order to mod later. I mean, you may decide you don't want to mod... but is playing on PC because you might want to mod such a bad thing?

This is all said by someone that plays on PC and doesn't mod. Some mods screw things up and cause bugs... and that is a hassle I don't feel like dealing with, especially since the vanilla game is so much fun already. I mean, I was originally quite fascinated with some of the mods, but I decided to play without first, and then decided I was fine without them.

Also, yes, playing vanilla first is the way to go. It's how you learn what frustrates you and what you enjoy. That'll mean you'll be able to make an informed decision when you decided to mod or not.

As to having multiple farms? It's not necessary, but most people eventually have multiple farms. I have 6 saves on my PC, and of those 2 are solo games and the other 4 are MP saves for me and the wife. She has a couple solo saves on her own computer too. It's really common to have more than 1.

I guess I just like being able to play away from the PC. And Switch offers that portability while I'm learning. I've also heard others say the same thing. I'm really not looking into using lots of mods, maybe just portraits and such.
