Festivals

Do you go to the town festivals every year? After getting all the NPC's up to 8 stars I stopped going. I don't know if this will have an impact on my friendships or not. I still make it a point to talk with them when walking by and give random food gifts. But other than that, I could be doing more productive things with my time.

Unless going the Joja route I do, I just want to be part of the community :-) There's no in-game reason or benefit that I'm aware of I just like doing it. There are indeed more productive things I could be doing, but so be it. Same reason I still talk to folks as I pass by and give them gifts on their birthday (Iridium Quality if I can). Plus how else am I going to show off at the Fair with my display?

It will not, if you're already at max hearts with everyone. Stardew Valley has a profound understanding of the true meaning of friendship - once you reach maximum friendship with someone, you never have to talk to them again. (Unless you're married to them, obviously).

My approach to festivals at that point is a case by case matter of which festivals I like and which I don't. I'm not going to bother racing Abigail for the eggs just for another 1000g, or winning the grange display yet again for no meaningful reward. I will attend the Luau and Dance of the Midnight Jellies. I ended up deciding that Spirit's Eve just barely made the cut, so apparently 2500g for a nighttime festival is my dividing line; if it had cost a meaningful fraction of the day, or if the reward was much less, I wouldn't bother.

I do what Worblehat does and just go to the ones I like, though if my other planning gets in the way I'll omit these sometimes. Other times I end up in them because I forget they are going on and wander in! Lol. I like them, though they can get a little monotonous after a while I guess. Certain ones I always like though. The night market being my fav because there's more in it that I like doing and I can still do some regular stuff during it.

I intend to go to every festival as they feel like a key part of the game if you're playing it like an RPG lite, which I do. If you're not playing specifically to Min-Max or for something to grind (other than Friendship), then the Festivals are a featured part of the game immersion even after you have all the Rarecrows, paintings, or other goodies. Plus, the Night Market has the Deep Sea Fishing, which is my favorite event of the Stardew Valley year.

And you get to do it 3 times!

But of course CA giveth and CA taketh away. I noticed that my game doesn't seem to remind me that a Festival is starting any more and I've missed a couple recently, only noticing the following day or so. Now a true bastion of efficiency puts her horse blinders on in order to focus on the barely one thing that can be kept in mind at any given time, so it's possible I just missed the popup but its happened a couple of times now.

And of course you very well know that afterwards Abigail just casually parades around eating Omelettes, Fried Eggs, Chocolate Cake, Blueberry Tarts, and occasionally dropping an Egg, saying "oops!" I see right through that. No competition at the Egg Hunt and Ms. Fake Hair Color (yes, I said it!) acts like she owns the place again.

She doesn't even like Eggs.

I do the same with the Luau and Christmas. So sometimes the person I'm supposed to give a gift too just ends up getting a rock. 😁

I noticed that this time too that it didn't remind me about the luau starting. The only thing I really get now is letters from Lewis about the Christmas thing. And you're so right about Abigail not liking eggs. lol

That's the way I am. I don't stop and talk to and give gifts to NPC's for credit. It makes me feel more in touch with the game. Plus, every once in a while, they say things that crack me up and it's awesome to play a game that's got real personality.

Really? It's the same color as her dad's hair, seems real to me... :wizard:

Re: festival notifications - you do still get the usual reminder in the mail. Though sometimes that's far enough in advance that it's easy to miss. If you check the weather on TV that's another reminder but who does that late in the game (nothing about the weather would change what you do, why bother checking). And sometimes your spouse will remind you - Maru asked about whether I'd be fishing at the Festival of Ice moments before I went outside and saw the letter about it in the mailbox.

Another reason to keep going to festivals in the later years - seeing what Leo says or does.

The alert still comes up for festivals. If you're busy collecting things, though, it can get lost in the background noise. I've had it happen a few times, yes.

I still do them, but since I'm at full hearts with everyone, I usually only talk to a few people, and I mix it up at each festival. I use to go right at 9:00, but now I'm cool if I finish up all my business and get there around 12:00. I still always forget about them, so I'm grateful for the messages in the mail. Also, every year I try and break my record for most eggs found, or at least get the same number as the past year. I feel like the festivals add a real sense of 'home' to the game, so I like them.

I am glad you asked this question. I had intended to ask it myself. I usually don't go to the festivals anymore. I'm in year 9 and went to all festivals for a number of years prior. Now, I just pop to the island on festival days if I am done with my chores. I did feel a bit guilty this last Xmas since I didn't bring a gift for my secret santa. Might have to make up for that next year.
