Earthblade cancellation

I'm so ****ing upset. I don't know why the net isn't talking about this more. It's such a massive waste of years of work from a highly skilled and successful team. And I know they cite pressure and whatever, but like... just deliver and you can worry about everything else later. Now their legacy is that they were too weak to push through adversity and release a fantastic piece of art that enriched the lives of countless people. It could've been "this was difficult but ultimately worth powering through" and now it's just "don't feel like it".

They explicitly downplay Pedro's betrayal in the blog post, and he's being all nice and sharing **** on bluesky... But I still can't help but feel it really is squarely his fault. HE is the one who threw a fit about Celeste IP rights, HE is the one who abandoned their team and left them without an important role. If he had any strength of character or morality, he would've stuck it out, finished the project, and then AND ONLY THEN parted ways to work on his own game. Whatever he ends up doing with Neverway will be a faint shadow of what Earthblade was shaping up to be. It's a shame.

I don't care who disagrees and I don't care how this post makes me look. None of my family understand what this meant to me and none of my friends care enough to talk with me about it so I can vent and heal. They're too self absorbed in their comicbooks and memes and miscellaneous bull**** to be empathetic and gentle, and I'm sick of them and their behavior.

That is all, thanks, sorry for taking up space in this forum. Hopefully this post just gets deleted and nobody has to see my personal problems.

Celeste is my favorite video game ever so when I heard the news I was very sad. It sucks, but sometimes **** happens, people drift apart, or lose motivation on a project because of X, Y, or Z. I would rather believe the people who know the most about the situation and if they really thought canceling it was the best decision then I find it hard to think it's a mistake. Your frustration is real and understandable but they must be feeling that x10, it's not an easy decision at all, and the fact that they made it says a lot. If the cancellation means they can work on and actually release new stuff instead of forcing themselves to finish a doomed project for years and years then I'll be satisfied.

I was looking for commiseration, not justification.

But I do appreciate your intention.
They gave you commiseration. They were sad too and said it sucks too, they played and enjoyed the game as well. They just wanted you to see the other side of the coin. Life happens. Maybe the developer is going through a hard time in life, list a loved one or had a child or something. Imagine if you had to spend the entire rest of your life shackled to one project. That would totally suck.

On the other hand Digital media in general sucks versus old fashioned hard copies of games or movies. You agree when you purchase a digital copy of a game that at any moment for any reason it may disappear. Either by the developer or by the company that sponsors the paid for game such as GOG or Steam. It sucks and is a major problem in digital world but that’s the way things are now, in my opinion for the worse as I lived happily in pre digital and am happy I have hard copies of movies that still play on barely working dvd players. I still have old console with cartridges that still play. I have actual books that are tattered and worn but still readable. I agree wholeheartedly digital games can suck a lot. It’s affected me with other games and apps that have disappeared or changed for the worse under new developers or management. I do understand where you are coming from there.
