Does training rod get as many chests/same quality as regular rod?

I got a lucky day, if I fish with a training rod hoping to get extra chests, will I get as many chest and as good of stuff from the chests with training verses regular? Luck has no effect on fish gained, right?

If you're trying to get chests, you should just purchase the Iridium Rod and equip the Treasure Hunter lure.

Given he is asking for a comparison against regular rod, I'm guessing he doesn't have the fishing skill to equip those just yet.

In which case... to the OP, you are correct, Training Rod vs Normal Rod has no impact on chest appearance, and will likely increase odds of success due to a broader catch window. However, as was pointed out, if your intent is to specifically fish for chests, you really need to grind your fishing skill to the point where you can use treasure hunter lures and unlock the Pirate perk.
