Distillation?

Idea for Distillation. Turn beer to whisky or wine to brandy. Still to be made of copper. Cask used to mature. Duration of maturation determines quality. Recommend 3 year minimum. Sold to Saloon to be used in cocktails or served neat. Can also be used as ingredient for dishes sauces or desserts.

A second distillation would make pure alcohol sold only to clinic, Demetrius, or used as ingredient in a cleanser of some kind (hand sanitizer)

I think 3 years might be a bit much but I would love to see some more artisan possibilities and distillation is definitely on my list. I found a couple decent mods for it, but it would be nice to have it built into the game.

Maybe three years seems long, but it should be a significant amount of time and force the player to think more long term and not just seasonally. The barrels should be able to yield multiple bottles of whisky/brandy and so the profit would be higher than the one bottle/beer per keg. Hence the time in the barrel should be long enough to keep the balance of the game. The age should affect the quality and the value. It should be an advanced activity and not something knocked out in the first or second year or maybe not even the third year. It should be a late game activity and something to work toward over multiple years.

Further considerations, the still should require coal to burn and should be repaired/replaced after a set number of uses. The sheds can be used/converted to warehouses especially for storing whisky/brandy. And so, the basement would not be the only place for aging, but the sheds (converted) can only be used to age wine/whisky.

maybe 3 seasons can work. 3 years are too much

I like the idea of a 3 year thing. By end game money is meaningless anyways, until they add more expensive stuff to buy/upgrade anyways.

A further consideration might be limited reuse of the barrels to store/age the whisky/wine with diminishing value of the resulting whisky/brandy per reuse with a maximum of 3.
