iOS Different apps = no update?

I’ve noticed that the red icon version of the app which is free doesn’t seem to get the 1.6 update on iOS but the blue icon version that you have to pay for does? Is this just a me issue? I’m not able to buy the app unfortunately currently but even if I can in the future would I be able to transfer over my data from the free version of the app over into the version I need to pay for?

The update will be released on Apple Arcade as well, but it is currently waiting for Apple’s approval.

I think you can move your save files between the two, but I’m not sure. I know I’ve seen the question before on this firm so I hope you’ll find an answer as well.
