Switch Controllers?

Hi! I’m new to the multiplayer part of Stardew, I looked it up and realized I would need another pair of joy cons for me to be able to play on the split screen, right? I was wondering if I could use a pair of joy cons and then a Nintendo switch controller and be able to play that way for the split screen? Or would it need to be two matching controllers/joy cons? Thank you!
