Windows controllers no longer work on PC(no mods)

enable steam support, disable steam support. xbox one controller. ps4 controller. nintendo switch pro controller. ps5 controller. 8bitdo ultimate controller. various other knock-off cheap controllers both x-input and d-input. controllers. doesn't matter if using bluetooth, or plugged in with cables, or using the controller's proprietary dongle. it's like the game has just decided it's not gonna be a controller game anymore.

no mods, fresh install, windows is up to date.

i haven't played in almost a year and saw that a new farm type and a lot of features were added, so i installed the game through steam. no mods. no weird plugins or apps like ds4windows on this machine as it's a fresh OS install. all of my controllers worked perfectly last year, now none of them do.

i uninstalled the game on steam, rebooted my PC, reinstalled the game. it still won't recognize a controller, but it's getting an input from my 8bitdo controller. when i press the "start" equivalent button it makes the failed action rattle sound and says "cabin not available". i'm so confused.

Same thing happening here, the issue has been present since 1.6.13 at least. I had been playing the games every day for months so i thought i could quit it for a while and wait for the newest updates and then come back to it. Saw the new update, went to get it, tried it and same problem.
It does not recognize ANY controller, i have tried with three different ones at least. It is definetely the update because it tested the controller with the 1.6.11 version and it worked. Im using the GOG version, so it is not a steam problem. I have tried every troubleshooting step i have found online. Nothing has worked. I dont want to have to use a third party to be able to play with the controller, so please, please fix it. PLEASE!!!!

i think i'm gonna try rolling back to a previous version then since you said it worked on 1.6.11
edit: steam wouldn't let me go back to 1.6.11 but it did let me go back to 1.6.8 and now it's back to working perfectly with all my controllers.

Glad to know it worked out for you, but i really dont want to reverse the updates. How do you think we can make them look at this issue? It seems to be getting ignored everwhere.

sadly, i think most developers and certainly still a lot of PC players still kinda look down on people playing with controller on PC. but i first played stardew valley on the nintendo switch and got used to the controller and playing with keyboard and mouse just feels clunky and jank. hopefully they'll fix it in the next update, but i don't have my hopes up.

Is no one going to be looking at this issue? I really cannot believe this issue cannot be solved, no one seems to be really paying attention to it :(

Yes, we are aware of the issue. There are other reports of the same issue that have already been posted & responded to.

It's not an easy thing to fix, but the team is looking into it.

any updates on the controller stuff? still can't use mine on any version after 6.1.8
