Clay farming probabilities (for my dissertation!)

Hi all! I'm writing my dissertation on Stardew and I'm doing a section on clay farming and so I have a couple of questions... I know that the standard farm has the most tillable space but I was wondering if anyone actually knew the average number of clay spots there are per farm? Similarly, the average number of artifact spots per farm (and other areas of the map) ? I'm a maths student so I'm trying to collect data in order to make a sort of optimisation guide lol

Thanks so much!

Every tillable spot can yield clay, that's the whole point of clay farming. Effectively, you're not limited by available spots to hoe, you're only limited by available time and energy.

It's similar for artifact spots, everywhere has a small chance to be a spot. One thing you need to remember is that they're much more common in winter than in the other sessions, for reasons that I don't recall at the moment.

So, for the averages you're looking for, it's almost meaningless for clay, but for artifact spots, I think the number you're looking for is simply going to be tillable spots multiplied by chance of being an artifact spot.

Clay spots 1.0-1.5 (1.6 will change them) work as advancing chess knight “threads”

They advance forward each time you till the soil. The basis of clay farming is abusing the inherently simple pattern to deliver clay every single hit. There are more advanced patterns you can go into which involve more threads.
