Chopped down a couple of trees and the wood and sap fell into an inaccessible area!

I thought they disappeared immediately; they certainly will overnight. If they're still visible, you can try to increase your magnetism, which would automatically pull them to you if it's strong enough. Unless someone has sent you a Bean Hotpot in the mail, I'm guessing you probably can't do that at this point, though.

If the terrain permits, it's best to chop trees so that they fall into accessible terrain. For example, stand between the farm pond and the tree if you can so that it will fall away from the water. Of course often that's not possible and you've seen what happens... It's only wood and sap though.

If you can't stand on the left or right off the tree, you can still make it fall in the right direction.

When you're standing above or below, do not stand exactly centered. Move a step (a pixel is enough) to the side you don't want the tree to fall.

You need a magnet ring it's super useful on situations like this

As the others have said, there are several things that will give you more magnetism. All the ways I can think of involve eating something or wearing a ring, and there are a few different rings and foods that will do this for you. Good luck!

I will say, to prevent this on your farm, if you can chop trees facing away from the edge of your farm if there close, it may be able to prevent as they won't fall near the edge. But if they do a magnetism ring would be your best bet I would say, I wear one all the time just in case, and also helps with collecting stuff while mining especially if you need to escape quickly but don't want to give up stuff, magnet rings are very useful, especially in that situation when the unreachable areas try to gobble up resources.

If you are near water and lets say the tree is alongside water on its left side,
You need to chop the tree on its right side or it will fall into water and you lose your rewards,
Dont drop items from your backpack near water or off bridges either as you could lose those too...
