This one only happens to decorative items when the inventory is full at first. Here‘s one example:
I accidentally picked up a green carpet in the cellar & it disappeared. I finally noticed it ended up out of bounds, where I can still turn it, but not pick it up again, even if I have enough space in the inventory now.
