Hello,
For the last 5 or 6 days I have spent hours trying to get modded SV to work on deck, and I keep failing so here I am.
I downloaded all of my mods from Nexus and other sites, and the thing is, I have tried using a couple of terminals, a couple of mod managers, and it persists after an (unrelated to SV) migration from SteamOS to bazzite-deck-gnome. I always fail to achieve consistent results.
On steamOS, Stardrop launches most of the time, launches the game on desktop mode. On gaming mode, when it boots up xterm to talk about the mods, it uses white text on a white background. I have rectified this on desktop mode (black bg, white text) but that change does not carry over to game mode no matter what I do. I then installed kitty and put that in the "StardewValley" file as preferred, but SMAPI doesn't manage to launch with it and does skipterminal, on both modes. Nexus Mods app, I went mod by mod on the nexus site again and did cdn downloads, doesn't recognize nxm links.
I then migrate to bazzite because a friend and I wanted to try it out. xterm launches with a black bg without stardrop, doesn't launch xterm properly with it. The bundled terminal isn't supported in the file and IDK exactly what command to put in that if statement in "StardewValley" as I am rather fresh to linux command-line, so I again install kitty. I launch Stardrop from the .sh file (desktop mode) and it works with the mods and recognizes kitty (!). I then launch it as a steam shortcut (with or without the command) and it fails to launch any terminal. Not only is this the case in gaming mode, but in that mode stardrop crashes way more often and always hangs the deck when trying to exit everything. Nexus Mods app, recognizes links, but I think it has a duplicate install problem at this stage of alpha, so it doesn't launch anymore in either mode due to exceptions up the wazoo.
Anyway, I am sorry for scrambling your brains, but I have spent legitimately 15+ hours in the last few days to play a single game and I'm rather weary.
My intentions are simple.
1. I want to use a mod manager that works on the steam deck.
2. I want it to have a visible, 'sufficiently' legible terminal when SMAPI starts up
3. I want it to consistently boot up the game and shut it down without punching the OS in the face
Thank you for reading, and if someone with more skill than I have is reading this, a deck-centric SV mod manager would be the bomb.
