Switch Can’t Plant Trees Without Using Mouse Pointer

Game Day/Year (unsure if this matters, but including anyway): Spring 18, Year 1 (has been happening since Day 1)
Problem: I started a new game for the 1.6 update and have found that I’m unable to plant regular trees (acorns, pinecones, maple seeds, or mahogany seeds) anywhere on the Stardew Valley map, including my farm, unless I use the mouse/arrow placement method (right joystick to select a tile instead of just pressing A). I’ve played over 500 hours (oof, I know) of Stardew Valley, so I know where trees can and cannot be planted, so I know that isn’t the issue and this is some sort of bug.

I’ve also encountered this bug in a save file once before update 1.6, so I don’t believe it was caused by anything in this latest patch. Nothing I did in that game solved the issue, so I ended up just deleting the save file (it was fairly new) and starting over.

Steps to Recreate Bug:
  1. Have a tree seed (can be any of the four regular tree seeds) in your inventory
  2. Place the tree seed in your “hand” (I.e. hold it above your head)
  3. Walk to any tile anywhere on the map that shows a green square on the ground in front of you (placement tile indicator) [See photo #1]
  4. Click the action button (A) to plant the tree seed. Do not use the right joystick/mouse pointer to select a tile/plant.
  5. The “plant” noise will sound, but the tree seed will remain in your inventory and you will not see the seed planted in the ground where you selected to plant [See photo #2]
  6. Try again on the same tile, this time using the right joystick/mouse pointer to plant the seed. [See photo #3]
  7. The seed should successfully plant. [See photo #4]

I originally thought this was due to the fact that I was standing too close/slightly on top of the tile I was trying to plant the seed in, but I’m able to plant the seed using the joystick/mouse pointer when I’m standing in the exact same spot as when I try with just the action button (A).
