Switch Can’t get the ostrich egg, help!!

Hiya!! I’m trying to reach perfection on my Switch save file for the first time and dug up the walnut you can get from note #10 on Ginger Island BEFORE completing the archeology collection and never got the ostrich egg from that spot, so now I’ve been speedrunning the volcano dungeon daily to try and get one from a rare chest on floor 9 but I’m starting to worry that it’s not possible…

My friend mentioned that he heard from somewhere that ostrich eggs won’t drop from chests unless you’ve already dug up the original from note #10, and I was wondering if anyone has any insight on this? Or if anyone else has been in the same boat as me where they missed their chance to dig up the ostrich egg? Did you manage to find one in the volcano? Any and all advice is super appreciated, Thank You so much!! :D

Also to add onto this; when I dug up the spot after getting note #10, the only thing I got out of it was a walnut, and now nothing comes out when I try digging it up again :/

You definitely can get an ostrich egg from a rare chest. I once got one my first time through the volcano and the secret note actually gave me my second one. It's rare though! I think it's a 1/9 chance, and you don't get that many rare chests to begin with. I'd make sure that you're checking other floors for rare chests too, not just floor 9. If you're on PC, an easy way to check is to take a screenshot in the options menu when you enter the floor

Edit: also I think you can get one from the raccoons. After 6+ requests, they have a chance of giving you your next unshipped item as a reward, excluding artisan goods and roe
