Bug related to friendship score and cooking recipes earned from it.

I tried to max friendship with Leo immediately, with the help of Stardrop Teas, on top of an iridium quality gift, the first time i saw him having a birthday in this save. Next morning come, i got only the "Poi" recipe and not the "Mango Sticky Rice"! The day after, no mail at all.

Thankfully, this time round, i back up my saves folder frequently, so i restored the save to 1 day before his birthday.

My question is twofold:
1) What's the use of Stardrop Teas, if max friendship in one go, breaks the mail reward(s)?
2) Is this behavior intentional, or an oversight?

I'm not sure there is a bug.

You gave a Stardrop Tea to Leo, that's 250 friendship points, with a x3 multiplier because it's his birthday, so 750 points.

You also gave him a gift, I assume this was a loved one, that is 80 friendship points, with a x8 multiplier for his birthday. That is a sub total of 640 points. As the gift was iridium quality, you get another multiplier of x1.5, which brings the sub total to 960 points.

Hence the two gifts equal to a total of 1710 friendship points.

A heart being equal to 250 friendship points, these gifts bring you to 6.84  with Leo.

Thus, you have unlocked heart events 2, 3, 4 and 6. Poi recipe is from 3 hearts event, so you got it, as intended. Mango Sticky Rice recipe is from 7 hearts event, so you did not unlock it, as intended.

Unless I misunderstood something in your post, everything seems to work as intended.

Maybe he only sends the second recipe after you trigger his "move to town" event?
He did move to town. Never mailed me the second recipe afterwards though, hence i restored my backuped save from before gifting him anything.

But it doesn't. With gifting him those items, i ended up with max hearts (10x). He mailed only one recipe instead of two. That is the issue.

I don’t think it’s related to the tea, because I’ve seen other players report that they’re missing one of his recipes as well, and I don’t think anybody mentioned that they were moving his hearts in one day.

You can search through the blog section to see if you can add anything to those reports.

Thank you for clarifying the issue and what the bug is.

There is still something strange in the calculation. You said that you got the Poi recipe by mail the day after gifting Leo, meaning you hadn't reach 2 hearts with him at the time of gifting. Even if you was as close as possible from 2 hearts (499 friendship points), when applying the previous calculation: 499 + 750 (Stardrop Tea on birthday) + 960 (iridium quality loved gift on birthday) + 20 (talking to Leo, that I forgot on my previous post), this is a grand total of 2 229 friendship points, which means 8 hearts (8.916 to be accurate).

Therefore, you should have triggered the 7 hearts event (sending of the Mango Sticky Rice recipe) indeed. But you shouldn't be at 10 hearts... There is clearly something amiss in the calculation. :hmm:

As for your question:

In my opinion, the purpose of Stardrop Tea, from a game design PoV, is to allow the player to quickly get one heart (250 friendship points ) with a villager. The main intention is probably to be able to reach the required amount of hearts with a villager before a given time (Flower Dance festival, accessing a specific heart event/recipe...)
The fact that the bonus multiplier from birthday/Winter Feast is nerfed down to x3 for Stardrop Tea, conforts me in this opinion.

You can gift more than one stardrop tea in a day. The first post said „with stardrop teas“ so I assume that’s what happened.

I have the same issue but I’m on switch.. is there a fix to this yet? I have poi but not the mango rice. I also have full hearts with Leo and all cut scenes.

For PC, i restored the previous day's save game, raised his friendship only to the point he mails the first recipe and now, i very slowly raise his friendship.

If at 7 hears he sends the recipe, then the bug should be administered, by not maxing all of his hearts at once.

For consoles, you cannot do anything, i am afraid...

UPDATE:

Leo mails the Mango Sticky Rice recipe normally, at 7 hearts.

SOLUTION:

Do not raise his friendship, all hearts at once, in one go. First get the Poi, then continue raising frienship with him, later!
