Mac bug on steam version using ps4 controller

I am trying to get my ps4 controller to work with SDV, set it up fine, the menu recognises the controller input and works ok. But when I get into the game the controller does work but there is constant scrolling through all the items in my inventory, meaning I can't use anything at all because it is constantly scrolling through the stuff.

Is this a common problem? I have tried enabling steam input, repairing my controller, wired and via bluetooth, but it still has the issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

This may be an issue with the controller, I believe a common term for it is stick drift, may or may not be it if the issue isn't present elsewhere. Have you tried unplugging any other controlling devices like a mouse before using the controller?
