Solved [BUG] Magenetic buffs not working correctly with combined rings

Platform: PC Version 1.5.4
Primarily Multiplayer, but also occurs in single player mode on the same world
I use SMAPI, but only informational mods (UI Info Suite, etc.). The problem persists when loading the save without SMAPI/mods whether in single player or coop modes.

I started noticing that my magnetic range was acting like the default range when it should be increased. A farmhand is also experiencing the issue. Upon some lengthy investigation I think I've narrowed the problem to having something to do with combined rings.

The combined ring I'm using is [Iridium Band + Crabshell ring]
The other player is using [Iridium Band + Slime Ring]

Things I've found:
  • If the combined ring is unequipped before sleeping for the night, then re-equipped at the start of the next day, magnetic range seems to behave as expected. The issue seems to occur only when sleeping through the night while wearing the combined ring.
  • Removing the combined ring after sleeping while wearing it, then replacing it with a Glowstone Ring does NOT fix the problem--magnetic range still behaves like the basic value. The problem will persist until sleeping without the combined ring equipped.
  • Adding a standard Iridium Band after sleeping with only the combined ring equipped, will increase the magnetic what is expected of a single Iridium Band.
  • When looking at the save file, the affected players have a magnetic range of 0, if the ring was equipped when going to sleep. I do believe the minimum value for this should be 128--I could be wrong about this. The other player should have a magnetic range of at least 256, since their other ring is a standard Iridium Band. (Two rings with +128 range)
  • Magnetic range behaves as expected when using standalone rings (Glowstone, Iridium Band, Magnet) as long as you haven't slept with the combined ring equipped.

To clarify and correct point 3:
  • Adding a standard Iridium Band after sleeping with only the combined ring equipped, will increase the magnetic range to what is expected of a single Iridium Band.
Adding a second band in addition to the combined ring, thus increasing magnetic range further.

Sorry, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to word the problem clearly.

Ultimately, it seems that the combined ring's magnetic value is just cancelled out/ignored entirely while wearing it into a new day.

I'm having the same issue, however the combined ring also seems to have a much smaller light radius sometimes as well. Is the game treating the iridium band in the combined ring as the small varients of the magnet and glow rings?

I'm using iridium/napalm and iridium/burglars usually and I see exactly what I would expect out of that combo of combos.

Have you tried turning off the mods?

I have been using a couple informational mods as well, so I just tried launching the game and playing my file completely vanilla. It didn't seem to have any effect on the issue though, so I'm not sure. Still thank you, it's helpful to know it's working fine for others.

I also tried launching the game vanilla but still experience the same issue.

I also tried starting a new vanilla game and manually editing the save file to add the ring to test, but the ring doesn't work at all when I do this. I may not have added it correctly.

Out of curiosity, when you created the rings, was the iridium band in the first or second slot in the forge? Though I'm not sure it would make any difference.

The affected rings on my end are all with the iridium band placed in the first slot, for both players. In other words, the combined rings have the appearance of a discolored iridium band.

Edit: Nevermind that. It apparently doesn't make a difference. I attempted to create my ring in reverse and I'm still having the same problem.

Ok, so I've found my problem. It is, of course, caused by a mod. I know I tried launching in vanilla before, so I don't know what's up.

I went ahead and tried launching my game in vanilla single player. Immediately went to the forge and crafted a duplicate of my ring. I noticed things seemed to be working normally again. Go to bed, wake up and chop a tree -- magnetism works!

I tried again with mods, and it's once again broken. So went through the mods one-by-one..

Ultimately, the culprit on my end turn out to be MultiplayerTime mod

I found an alternative called MultiPause that works the same way, but doesn't seem to cause the issues with rings.

Sorry for any confusion! Maybe this could at least help someone else.

It at least helps me. I didn't try making another ring when I switched to vanilla to test, and I also have the multiplayer time mod installed. Sorry for the trouble and thank you all for your help.

For one it was first, and for the other second, so I fear you are correct in that it makes no difference.

I'm glad y'all have it working now, too.
