Windows bug/glitch with the golden walnut gem birds

Hi, I have tried looking into this issue many times and come out with nothing.
When I first started collecting the gems I gathered 3 out of the 4 and then didn't come back to the island for about 1 season. Resulting in the 3 gems vanishing but the totems still being occupied, as well as new birds spawning in areas that I had already gotten gems from. The new gems I would be given would be unplaceable on the one unused totem meaning the 'challenge/riddle' is unsolvable. If anyone has had this issue or knows how to fix it, that would be amazing as I'm trying to get 100% on my current save :)

First thing's first, the birds spawn forever, giving you free gems.

Second, have you tried putting the 4th gem in the last position?

yes I have tried placing gems in the fourth spot but the game won't let me.
