Switch [BUG] Can't place sprinklers, tree seeds, crab pots, or drum blocks

I've been obsessed with this game and have done four play-throughs previously (on the Switch) to 100% perfection. I decided to start a new farm (forest farm) and have been experiencing a weird issue. I can't place *a lot* of things. Sprinklers (regular + quality are the ones I've tried), drum blocks, crab pots, and most recently tree seeds. I press the button and it makes the sound like something has been placed, but the item is still in my inventory. If I try to "place" it again, it just goes back in my farmer's hand.

I have tried restarting the game, restarting the switch, making sure my software is current, but nothing has helped. The further along I get the more things I'm finding I can't place. Is this the universe trying to help me quit my Stardew addiction? I have googled but haven't found anyone else having this issue.

The forest farm is a bit different than the default one, and there are some places on the green grass where things can't be placed. You should always be able to place stuff in the dirt areas though.
