Best Girl (NPC) to marry

There really isn't a best, they all do much the same in the way of chores, have slightly different gifts that they can give but none of them are consequential. They each have a different 14 heart event but I wouldn't say any are so much better than another, they'll all worth experiencing at some point.

Just marry whoever you like best, someone who reflects what you like or what you think your character likes

All spouses have different dialog and some do unique things after marriage. Also some change their work schedules while others don't at all. As Filthy Gorilla said, each also has a different 14
 events and Gifts, all of which are fun.

It may come down to how much you RPG the game. If you are looking for a functional addition to the game, Penny and Emily offer unique clothing and room decor options. If you're looking for useful Spouse Gifts, then Abby and Maru give Bombs. The rest give you things are common enough that you're probably not going to need them much. All give a different choice of cooked dishes so that's quite variable. IMO even the Bombs don't make much of a difference as you don't get gifts every day and then it's random from a choice out of about 10 things for what you get.

But I'm RPGing the game so I'm there for the spouse dialog and I find Emily and Haley to be the best for this. Abigail is pretty good too. Unfortunately I haven't played my Penny save for a long time but a few years ago her post-marriage dialog was only so-so, though more dialog has been added in newer game updates. I wasn't married to Maru long enough to get a good feel for her dialog, I should return to that playthrough. And Leah avoids me so I haven't married her yet. LOL she's probably more perceptive than the rest.

Back to the Work Schedule thing, Maru keeps her career as does Penny. Emily works as the Saloon only on occasion, helping out for old time's sake which I like. Abby doesn't wander as much as she used to which bugs me a bit. Haley also ends her aimlessness when becoming a Farm wife so you'll need to make peace with yourself with the schedules for those last two. Of course their dialog accounts for that but it bugs some people that they seemingly change in that way. And Leah, well I dunno.

Maybe you could marry Leah and let me know!

Do yourself a favor and marry Leah or Haley. They feel the most ‘human’ to me, not like the pile of code that they are. Haley far and away has the best character progression out of all the girls, and possibly including the boys, although an argument could be made for Shane. Leah is a struggling artist trying to get away from her ex, and find her footing. She lives outside of town, much like the farmer, and the relationship progresses at a steady pace, unlike some bachelors who don’t even talk to you until 8 hearts😂. Leah gives you a gift at 6 hearts, but shows signs that she is deeply affectionate well before that. Can’t go wrong with either. Maru is also great.

TL;DR: Leah, Haley, Maru

Ah yes, the best part of Stardew is when we develop parasocial relationships using our character as an expression of ourselves, forming friendships and romantic relationships with well-rounded characters who fit and reflect our wants and hopes needs for real life partners. Or in other words, it’s a glorified dating simulator that also has fishing and mining and fishing.

I've never really married anyone other than Sam, but if I were to pick in the bachelorettes for me, I'd say Haley. Sure she's kinda mean at first, having that diva-attitude annoys me, but it's fun going through her character development on the dating-phase. Not sure about the married life with her, I assume she's like other spouse who helps out in the farm sometimes and doing their own thing, and occasionally give gifts.

But that's me 'cuz I love going through character developments and stories and all the sappy whatnots of the game than the actual mining and fishing. I prioritize the story progression rather than the gameplay grind.

Lew Zealand 👆 already laid out the benefits for the bachelorettes depending on what you need (helpful gifts or story dialogues). Every one of us plays the game differently, so play the game how you want.

To be honest, there's not much benefits in the married life other than for reaching Perfection and Achievements and the Stardrop. Their gifts (both the 14 Heart Events gifts and occasional gifts) aren't really that helpful in the progression of the game, most are just for aesthetics. Any spouse will help you achieve all that so just marry who's going to make the game fun for you.

Well to be fair, Stardew is a Tailoring sim with some other bits tossed in to appease the occasional person who prefers Fashion to occupy a mere 93% of a game instead of the fully expected 100%. I mean, that's OK and all... but it does rather subtract from its sewingness and dyeingness ethos. I know I know, I shouldn't complain as it's otherwise so great and really the only thing saving that last 7% is that I get to see The Henchman.

For like a single scene. *sigh*

I will marry him one day...

Haha, I definitely know some who play the game as if it were made for that

It's actually a really convoluted rabbit petting simulator.
